Poem: When You Smelled Of Sex

Last night you smelled of sex:
hint of vodka,

infused with a note
of burnt tobacco
(evoking burning memories),
melding with your peculiar musk…

I felt cheaper
than the cigarette you smoked,

for it touched your lips
when I couldn’t.

Was it too dark for you
to see me
smoldering?

If only I could vapourize
and fuse with that potent scent.
If only I could condense
into a tiny bead of sweat
and cling to that tuft
of chest-hair that stuck out
from your shirt.
If only I could dissolve
in the darkness of last night
when you smelled of sex.
