Elen Govel and Kiran Mova are a regular face at gay pride parades in Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. The couple stay at Bangalore and have been together for six years now. They first met in 2002 in a party in Bangalore, but it was not love at first sight for them. They were friends for five years, and finally Kiran proposed Elen. “I proposed to Elen and I was surpirsed when he immediately accepted it, and we considered ourselves married ever since,” Kiran was quoted in an IndianExpress article recently.

Gaylaxy has photographed them in various pride parades since 2010. The duo is known to dress in a unique and traditional way at the pride, with their clothes being designed by Kiran’s mother andgrandmother especially for the occassion.

With rainbow on their gandhi topi, and an overcoat with embroidered peacock, we captured the couple at the pride parade in Bangalore in 2013. The emroidery on the overcoat was done by Kiran’s mother for them.

In Chennai that year, this rainbow dhoti that was specially stitched by Kiran’s grandmother grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

During Madurai’s first pride march in 2012, Elen and Kiran were in light blue kurtas and dhoti. With a garland on their neck, they looked like they had just got married in some temple in the Temple City.
