Calcutta High Court directed the State Bank of India to include “transgender” option in its examination forms, in accordance with the NALSA judgement. According to a report carried in Varta website, the directive was issued by Justice Debangshu Basak, who was hearing a writ petition filed by transgender activist Atri Kar.
Atri Kar had filed the writ petition after an advertisement issued by State Bank of India for the post of probationary officers did not carry the transgender option. “The court held that the SBI was State under Article 12 of the Constitution of India, and directed them to allow Atri Kar to fill up the examination form as a transgender person,” the website reported. In addition, in keeping with the NALSA judgement’s directive fro reservation, the High Court ordered SBI to extend deduction of examination fees as well.
