A sit in protest was held by the transgender community of Kashmir at Press Colony, Srinagar on 13th May against non-implementation of NALSA judgement in Jammu and Kashmir and disregard of transgender rights in the state.
Every transgender in the state shall be treated as living under BPL (Below Poverty Line), unless stated otherwise. They would be entitled to all the benefits under the BPL scheme, including cheap food-grains, LPG, electricity connections etc.
The PIL has sought social, economical and political inclusion and rehabilitation of the transgender community in Jammu and Kashmir, and their recognition as a marginalised and vulnerable section of the society.
