As queer individuals of conscience in Tamil Nadu, we condemn and stand in opposition to the strategies and the violence of the Tamil Nadu Government backed by the Indian Government and Vedanta’s Sterlite Unit on the people of Thoothukudi.
A sit in protest was held by the transgender community of Kashmir at Press Colony, Srinagar on 13th May against non-implementation of NALSA judgement in Jammu and Kashmir and disregard of transgender rights in the state.
What the incident certainly did was bring the whole community together under one roof to fight for their rights. That their life could so easily be infringed upon, with utter disregard to privacy, and that it could have been any one of “us” brought every one out from deep slumber. This time around, there weren’t activists protesting against such homophobia, instead, it was THE COMMUNITY standing up for its rights.
