Radio Active CR 90.4, in association with Namma Pride Bengaluru 2017, organised Queer Readings and Conversations – an effort to bring together Bengaluru’s queer community and allies, offer them a safe platform to express themselves, recite poems and discuss matters of queer existence through the passages from books they chose to read aloud.

This year’s Pride parade in Chennai was more politically charged than the previous ones. The larger political scenario in the state and the country was one of the primary reasons for the increased vocal assertion. There were slogans and placards against the raising right-wing politics and Hindutva, Hindi imposition and cultural erasure.
As Nepal was never colonized, hence it never criminalized homosexuals and third genders, and the Nepali societies are relatively more tolerant towards our LGBTIQ populations compared to many other countries across the world. Thus the ‘Gay Pride Marching’ is not only unnecessary but can become counterproductive too
Queer people undergo enough repression in their daily lives by straight people, society, government and police, let them not face more repression and policing of their bodies and desires at pride marches.
