Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election results were declared today, and in a tightly contested polls, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) scripted history by defeating BJP and wresting control of the MCD, another milestone was achieved with the win of Bobby Kinnar, the only transgender candidate in the elections.

Bobby Kinnar was AAP’s candidate from Sultanpuri 43 A ward of Sultanpur Majra Assembly, and won by defeating the Congress candidate Varuna Dhaka by 6714 votes. 38-year old Bobby has been associated with AAP since 2011, and had unsuccessfully contested the MCD elections in 2017 as an independent candidate.

Bobby is a popular face in Sultanpuri and has been involved in social work. After winning the elections, Bobby said, “I want to dedicate my victory to the people who worked so hard for me. I would like to thank everyone. Now I just have to work for development in my area.”
